Outings FAQ

1Whats is an Outing versus a Trip?
The club outings committee organizes official photo excursions to a specific place several times a year based on the DPC calendar. An outing is shorter, 2-3 hours in length, and is usually in the evening on a club night. Destinations are within the Lower Mainland, carpooling is employed and attendees reconvene at the end of shooting for socializing and refreshments. Impromptu outings also occur throughout the year where small groups of DPC members agree to meet or travel to a photo opportunity. A trip is a longer outing, usually 3-4 days, held at the end of the club year to a photo destination chosen by the members who have indicated their intention to attend. Transportation, accommodation and trip itinerary is arranged in advance by the group and coordinators. There is no separate fee for paid DPC members to attend outings or trips. Unpaid spouses or guests attending will incur a fee. Photo outings and trips are great opportunities to learn, to share and to socialize.
2What is Coffee & Cameras?
"Cameras and Coffee" is a casual gathering usually scheduled once a month at a local coffee shop. It is an opportunity to ask questions about your camera or processing, share photos for critique, or bring something for show and tell. We chat photography for an hour or two. Sometimes “Cameras and Cocktails” is convened for photo talk over a libation or two.
3What is a Photo Walk?
A Photowalk is a popular type of outing in which members travel to a photo destination, usually outdoors, where there are multiple opportunities for photogs to shoot a variety of scenes and subjects. They are able to move about independently, practising composition and perfecting techniques and skills.
4Where are the Outings and Trips too?
Outings and trip destinations are chosen for their photographic merit. An outing involves a definite limited area with a limited time frame----2 to 3 hours. A trip covers days and multiple photo spots. On a trip, the group may agree to split into smaller units at times based on different interests.
5How to I get to the Event Location?
Carpooling is usually the best option, but transit can be a useful alternative in some circumstances. Transportation decisions are usually decided closer to the date once it is clear how many will be attending and who is prepared to help with carpooling.
6If I get lost or separated from the group, can I call someone?
The outings coordinators have cell phones and will give all attendees their numbers. The club also uses a free downloadable messaging app called Whatsapp to maintain continual communication between outings/trip attendees. Coordinators create a group Whatsapp account for the entire group. If you get lost or wish to announce a change in plans, you can connect with all parties at once via text without calling a specific number.
7What is the cost of the Outings?
Outings are free for paid DPC members. Non-members and guests are $10 each.
