June 8, 2022Outing: Nitobe Memorial Garden
July 24, 2021From Dave Francis and David Egan
Well, the time has finally come where we can venture out again as a club.
Our first official outing in over a year will take place at Burnaby Lake Regional Park. The entrance at Piper Spit has ample parking, washrooms, the Nature House and takes you directly to a wooden walkway (the spit) out into the lake. Expect to see many different birds – more wood ducks than I’ve seen any where else, herons, sandhill cranes, mallards, geese, red winged blackbirds etc… This spot is where the extremely rare Mandarin duck has been hanging out for the last year or two and was recently spotted there again.
If you are not interested in birds there are some nice forested trails to explore and it will be a chance to get together in person again.
Outing details as follows:
Where: Burnaby Lake – Piper Spit entrance. 4519 Piper Avenue, Burnaby
When: Saturday July 10, 2021 at 9:00 am.
Gear: Recommended: longer lenses for birds, macro lenses for shots of interesting foliage, wide angle for landscape shots across the lake.
Parking: Parking available at the Piper Spit entrance.
The spit is fairly narrow and can be crowded at times (hopefully not at 9:00 am) so if you feel uncomfortable being close to strangers bring a mask.
Hope you can make it
Dave Francis
