North Shore Photographic Challenge 2023 Summary

On January 25 the selection competition for images to represent DPC in the North Shore Photographic Challenge was held. The judge was Kerri Jo Stewart, an award winning local photographer & artist.

There were 54 images from 19 makers.
6 images were selected by Kerri Jo.
All images received a score of 10 and Kerri Jo then ranked them 1 through 6.

2 – King – Stefan Malloch
3 – Great Blue Heron With Prey – David Friederich
4 – Wisdom Shines Through – Zephir
5 – Climate Chaos – Valerie Hider
6 – Natures Tear Drops – Debbie Schmaltz

On March 4 the 39th Annual North Shore Photographic Challenge was held via Zoom.
Participating were 25 clubs from BC & the Yukon with 264 images.
There were also 114 individual entries in the competition.

In a closely fought competition DPC put in a very creditable performance to finish in the top 10 – tying with Vernon Photography Club for 8th place.
There was a tie for first place & the Gold medal.

Club standings for the top 10 were:
1 – Lions Gate Camera Club – 142 – Gold
1 – Victoria Camera Club – 142 – Gold
3 – Chung Ai Photography Society – 140.5 Bronze
4 – Abbotsford Photo Arts Club – 140
5 – New Westminster Photography Club – 139
6 – Richmond Photo Club – 138
7 – Shuswap Photo Arts Club – 137.5
8 – Delta Photo Club – 137
8 – Vernon Photography Club – 137
10 – West Vancouver Seniors Photo Club – 136

The scores for the DPC club entries were:

King – Stefan Malloch – 25.5
Great Blue Heron With Prey – David Friederich – 22.5
Wisdom Shines Through – Zephir – 21.5
Climate Chaos – Valerie Hider – 23.5
Natures Tear Drops – Debbie Schmaltz – 23.5

Of special note – club member, Karoline Cullen, did DPC proud with her CAPA Silver Medal in the individual competition with her fabulous image, Strong & Steady, with a score of 26.
Judge, Kayla Stevenson, provided glowing comments on the image after the show.

Two other DPC members were singled out for judges comments on their impressive images.
Stefan’s club image, King, (25.5) by judge, Gordon Battaile & Valerie Hider’s individual image, Rise Above (22) by judge, Mary Jensen.
