Hi Everyone

DPC dynamic outings duo, Dave and David, wish you the best for 2020.  We hope your holiday was a time for warmth and conviviality as well as an opportunity to finally use that speedlight you bought two years ago.

Our first official club outing of the year will be an evening photowalk of historic Gastown, a unique corner of Vancouver, rich with memories and legends of the city’s colourful and boisterous past.  We will be practising low light, longer shutter speed techniques to create unique balanced compositions that dazzle laymen and wow judges.  It will be a time to socialize, to master equipment and to share secrets of success.

The Gastown district is bordered by Richards St to the west, Main St to the east, Water St to the north and W. Cordova St to the south.  It was named for “Gassy” Jack Deighton, a steamboat captain who arrived in 1867 to open the area’s first saloon.  This early waterfront neighbourhood of Vancouver features 19th century architecture, cobblestone walkways, the iconic steam clock and vintage lampposts, all bathed in the artificial light of nighttime Vancouver.

Details for the outing are as follows:

Date:   Wednesday, January 22, 2020

Time:   7:00 pm

Place:   Waterfront Station, 601 W. Cordova St.  We will meet inside the front doors on Cordova for a 7:00 pm start. Please be early.

Gear:   Bring fast wide primes or medium telephotos, camera, tripod, extra batteries & SD cards and remote triggers.  Dress warmly.

Refreshments:   We will finish up around 9:00 pm for appies and winter ales at the Tap and Barrel, Canada Place, overlooking Coal Harbour—adjacent to the Olympic Torch.

Hope you can make it
