Fall has come with a vengeance and kept many of us indoors. But, if you’re like most photographers, you have plenty of past photos to choose from and to send into DPC’s Photo Night next week.

Some themes this month come from our members and others reflect the season. First theme is Bokeh, which is the effect of out of focus points of light in pictures. To quote Wikipedia: “Differences in lens aberrations and aperture shape cause very different bokeh effects. Some lens designs blur the image in a way that is pleasing to the eye, while others produce distracting or unpleasant blurring (“good” and “bad” bokeh, respectively). Photographers may deliberately use a shallow focus technique to create images with prominent out-of-focus regions, accentuating their lens’s bokeh.” So check out your lens and see what happens.

The next theme is Mother Nature (MN). This could be anything from rain storms to sunshine. Show all her power or glory. This theme had me thinking of puddle reflections and a photo I once saw where a fully grown lion was looking into a puddle and the reflection was of a young cub. We can be creative with mother nature–she is with us.

Then we have the Unconventional Viewpoint (UV) theme, where you as a photographer can put the viewer in the role of a bird flying, an ant walking in the grass or a lady bug on a side of a building. Look up, look down, look sideways and look all around to get a different viewpoint.

The next theme asks you to tell a Story in 5 pictures or less. This is a series of images that we’ll show that should tell a story of an event that happened. Ideally this will be without an explanation from you as the photographer as your images should tell the story by themselves. Please note the naming of these files is different so that we can ensure that they stay sequenced and are presented in order. The last category of course is Open for those images that don’t fit into this month’s themes.

Note: Each member can submit up to 2 images for: Bokeh, Mother Nature (MN), Unconventional Viewpoint (UV) and Open, and 5 images for Story .

Challenge categories are: Bokeh; Mother Nature (MN); Unconventional Viewpoint (UV); Story and Open

Members can also send short slideshows or videos.

Please check your email for the Zoom meeting details as well as for the links for you to submit your images and videos.

Remember, for the best display quality, images should be resized to a maximum width of 1920 pixels and a maximum height of 1080 pixels. This may not be possible with cell/tablet images so please send us the largest image possible, up to the limits indicated above.

It is important to name your files as shown below so that they can be sorted and everyone’s images can be shown.
