DPC Photo Night – March 12, 2025
March 3, 2025Invisible Light – A Presentation on Infrared Photography with Mario Traina
Infrared photography is a unique art form that utilizes specially converted cameras or filters to block visible light, allowing photographers to capture wavelengths of light that are unseen to the human eye. Mario Traina, known for his striking black and white infrared work, will share insights into the process and techniques behind this fascinating medium.
Join us on Zoom Wednesday, April 2 from 7:30 – 9:30PM.
Mario Traina is originally from Ontario, but has called the Sunshine Coast home for the last two decades. His passion for black and white infrared photography shines through in his work, particularly through his use of an 850 nanometer converted camera. The result? Surreal and stunning images with darkened skies, dramatic cloud formations, and lightened foliage, creating an ethereal version of reality. Traina’s expertise blends traditional composition, lighting, and post-production techniques with the otherworldly qualities of infrared photography. His work beautifully captures the natural landscapes of the province and beyond, offering viewers a fresh perspective on the familiar.
“I hope this presentation will inspire fellow photography enthusiasts to experiment with infrared photography and explore the unique ways it can transform their artistic vision” said Traina.
This event is open to photographers of all levels, specifically anyone interested in discovering new techniques and expanding their photographic appreciation.
