SUMMARY:Digital Night - Long Exposure\, Culinary\, Line & Before/After
DESCRIPTION:Welcome everyone! It feels good to be back and I'm looking forw
ard to seeing so many great images this year. With my mind visualizing so
many wonderful submissions I've found it hard to narrow it down to few key
topics for the upcoming digital night. But alas\, I did come up with four
. This year I'm also going to try to define these topics to help you get c
onnected with the subject\, understand what I had in mind and hopefully sp
ur your imagination so that you can sumit images that fit into the theme b
ut may be of a nature that I hadn't even imagined. As always\, I'd like to
challenge you to think outside the box\, stretch your skill set\, and eve
n experiment with your photography.\nThis months themes are as follows:\n\
nThe first is 'long exposure'. Long exposure is a technique in photography
that isn't limited to just one genre but can span a variety of them. It c
an be used to create light trails in cityscapes\, smoothed water in seasca
pes\, star trails at night\, blurred movement in streetlife or sports\, an
d abstract photography. And\, if you know me you'll know I have to mention
that long exposures are easily created with a cell phone\, either through
an app on an Android or built into the iPhone's 'Live' feature. There are
many possibilities.\n\nThe second is one we've not had for digital night
and that is 'culinary' photography. This may not be a known genre cause I
kind of made it up but the definition of culinary is "of or for cooking".
What I envision are images of food that will make our mouths water or rest
aurant scenes showing people meeting over food\, or even cutlery images th
at can be quite artisitc. Let your imagination go!\n\nThe third one is 'li
ne' images. To quote from The J. Paul Getty Museum website\, "A line is an
identifiable path created by a point moving in space. It is one-dimension
al and can vary in width\, direction\, and length. Lines often define the
edges of a form. Lines can be horizontal\, vertical\, or diagonal\, straig
ht or curved\, thick or thin. They lead your eye around the composition an
d can communicate information through their character and direction." I th
ought to break this topic into segments so that we can show a number of im
ages under each type of line\, such as: vertical line (VL)\, horizontal li
ne(HL)\, vertical and horizontal line(VHL)\, diagonal line(DL)\, and curve
d line(CL). To determine which sub-category your image fits into look for
the dominant type or another way of thinking of it is\, look to the line t
hat draws the viewers eye the most.\n\nThe fourth theme this month is befo
re and after images with specific criteria. We have done this category in
the past but the criteria for this month is more specific. Your image chan
ge must be one of the following: 1) an addition of an element (i.e. add a
 bear)\; 2) an obvious change in colour\, texture\, sky\, or filter\; 3) an
extensive crop. Many members have editing software but in case you don't\
, here is a link to Wix's website that provides a list of 10 free editing
software\, along with the pros and cons for each.\n\nLastly is the 'open'
category. So if your image doesn't fit with this month's theme\, send it
in under 'open'.\n\nMembers can submit up to 3 images in the 'long exposur
e'\, 'culinary' and 'open' categories\, up to one image in each of the 'li
ne' sub-categories and 3 pairs of 'before and after' images..\n\nSend them
in and let's enjoy seeing what everyone has photographed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Remember\, for the best display quality\, images should be resized to a ma
ximum width of 1920 pixels and a maximum height of 1080 pixels\, This may
not be possible with cell/tablet images so please send us the largest imag
e possible\, up to the limits indicated above.\n\nThe file naming shown be
low is set up so that it reads the category first (i.e. LE means long expo
sure)\, a hyphen\, then your lastname followed by your first name\, a hyph
en\, the image number\, a hyphen\, and then the image title. It is importa
nt to name your files as shown below so that they can be sorted and everyo
 ne's image can be shown.\n\nLong Exposure\n-   LE-LastFirst-1-ImageTitle
 \nUse 2 for 2nd photo etc.\n\nCulinary\n-   Culinary-LastFirst-1-ImageTi
 tle\nUse 2 for 2nd photo etc.\n\nLine (VL=vertical line\; HL=horizontal li
 ne\, VHL=vertical and horizontal line\, DL=diagonal line\, CL=curve line)\

 HL-LastFirst-1-ImageTitle\n-   DL-LastFirst-1-ImageTitle\n-   CL-LastF

ing in this category is very important so that your images can be shown to
 gether)\n-   LastFirst-After-1-ImageTitle\nUse 2 for 2nd photo etc.\n-
   LastFirst-Before-1-ImageTitle\nUse 2 for 2nd photo etc.\n\nOpen\n-
  Open-LastFirst-1-ImageTitle\nUse 2 for 2nd photo etc.\n\nVideos/Slideshow

ges/videos/slideshows should be submitted to digitalnight@deltaphotoclub
.com by Noon on Wednesday September 30\, 2020.\n\nTo give you maximum tim
e to send in your images I have extended the submission deadline to the da
y of Digital night\, but please send them in as soon as you can as sometim
es there's difficulty getting them and I need time to contact you. Thanks
 for submitting images!\n\nHolly Egan\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
