The Delta Photo Club is pleased to present “A Closer Look at B&W Photography” by acclaimed photographer/instructor and DPC member Francois Cleroux at 7:15 – 9:30 pm, Wednesday, December 5 at the Kin Village Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen.

Francois says, ” I have loved Black and White Photography since I first laid eyes on Toni Frissell’s incredible image “Weeki Wachee Springs” as a young man. The image has a sense of gravity, timelessness and an inherent elasticity that allows a believable stretching of reality. It is this image that drew me to darkroom so that I could learn the art.

Creating compelling B&W imagery used to be a lengthy drawn out process.  Precise calculations, chemical solutions, paper choices and lots of time in the darkroom were the norm.  The digital age, however, has ushered in a multitude of methods for effortlessly creating powerful Black & White images.

We see and live in a world of color. That’s how we’ve evolved, and it’s the world that we know. Naturally, people gravitate to color photography attracted to images that pop with Hawaii Five-O like vibrancy. Our affinity for color even shows up in our speech. We use the words like “colorless” to describe a thing or an experience that’s dull, tedious or boring. So, why shoot black-and-white when today’s digital darkroom technology makes color management so easy?

Come to the presentation and learn why B&W Photography is timeless, beautiful, and easy.”
